The 1998 NYU Composers Seminar
in collaboration with
Sixth Annual NYU Composers Seminar
(E85.2028 Composers Seminar)
May 18th - June 25th, 1998
Tue.. & Thu.. 4 - 7 PM
Dr. Dinu D. Ghezzo, Director,
NYU Composition Program
A unique six-week program for undergraduate and graduate student composers
in which students write a new work under one of the following categories:
an instrumental composition of up to seven players; an interactive electro
- acoustic piece; a multimedia project (using dance, acting, image, as well
as electronic media); a mostly MIDI and electronics work; or a music theater
composition.
The work will be rehearsed, performed and recorded by a professional ensemble
(tentatively consisting of Fl, Cl, Pno, Tr, Vl, Cello, and Perc.). Rehearsals
and the final concert are recorded and mixed for a CD production in the
final week, by a team of professors and students from the Temmer Tonmeister
Program.
The Tonnmeister Program brings to the student one of the most advanced
approaches in recording techniques, in which musician/engineers work substantially
with composers and performers on all aspects of a music recording.
An additional concert may be offered after the final recording &
music production, to facilitate the addition of multimedia, dance, interactive
enhancements or requiring special stage preparation.
Each student will receive 5 copies of the professionally designed CD, containing
all of the works performed and recorded.
In addition to writing, correcting, rehearsing, performing, recording and
editing their personal compositions, students benefit from visiting composers,
performers, choreographers, stage directors, conductors and recording engineers
in master classes, lectures, or recitals, as well as class discussions on
topics related to students' writing projects.
